The ex-girlfriend of former FBI agent Charles McGonigal has died suddenly at her home in Florida. The Daily Mail reports that Allison Guerriero, 52, died hours after posting 75 posts on the social media platform X. There was a video of her walking down the street and another one declaring: "I hate the FBI."
Her statements were part of her relentless, years-long social media campaign against the 58-year-old married McGonigal and other senior figures at the agency.
Guerriero, a close friend of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, died on the evening of August 27, according to her 80-year-old father, Bill.
She had an 18-month affair with McGonigal, the former head of the FBI's counterintelligence unit in New York. After his exposure, she helped investigators uncover his crimes, including undercover work he was doing for Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.
McGonigal is serving a sentence of 6 years and 6 months in federal prison, but Guerriero always insisted that he should receive a harsher sentence.
She also mentioned in her testimony McGonigal's relationship with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. In an interview with Euronews Albania, Guerriero said that McGonigal had a special relationship with the head of the Albanian government.
"He was going to Albania to meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama, but he didn't tell me who the object of the meeting was. I believe they were personal friends and they often spoke to each other on the phone. Charli called Prime Minister Rama in my presence, not often, but he often told me that he was a good friend.
Charlie told me that he was friends with Prime Minister Rama and it seemed unusual to me that an agent of this high level of the FBI would have such a friendship. They often spoke on the phone with Viasat and he showed me photos of them together.
"It seemed like an unusual friendship. When Rama was in New York, Charlie told me that they had dinner together at an expensive restaurant, and to me that was something an FBI agent shouldn't do. They met in Albania, and Charlie sent me a text in September 2017 when he was there. He told me that he would be traveling to Albania and Kosovo," she said at the time.
On the day of her death, she posted a video selfie of herself walking in Boynton Beach, Florida, saying: "Hey, good morning everyone. Friends and foes... of course I'm in the middle of all my post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from 9/11, but I'm actually breathing a huge sigh of relief..."
Her father told the Daily Mail that he has not yet been told the cause of death or the circumstances. "We don't know yet. We are waiting to have access to the autopsy report. I believe they will issue a death certificate within the next day so that we can take her home and bury her," he said.
"It could have been an accident. It could have been a slip. It could have been anything. We're waiting for the death certificate to know what happened," he said.
A police spokesman told the Daily Mail that “There does not appear to be any indication of foul play at this time,” but the investigation is ongoing. The possibility of suicide or even foul play has not been ruled out. One of her friends told the Daily Mail: “She was getting a lot of threats from people online for her views.
