One of the basic rules of everyday life is to sit down and rest. But an Indian monk has chosen to stand for five years as part of a religious vow he plans to keep for 12 years.
Daulat Giri Ji Maharaj has not been sitting since 2021 as he is a member of the Hindu "standing father" (Khareshwari). Members of the "standing father" take a vow to stand, which they believe will help purify their souls and bring them closer to the god Shiva.
However, the monk's health condition has caused concern among doctors, as his legs are swollen and black. According to local media, Maharaj had abandoned his university studies to devote himself fully to the search for spiritual enlightenment, which he believes he will achieve only through extreme suffering and sacrifice.
Unfortunately, that's exactly what he's experiencing now, as he relies entirely on crutches and straps to keep himself upright, as his legs are swollen and doctors warn that his symptoms will only get worse.
Health experts point out that standing for such a long time can cause increased venous pressure, which initially leads to swelling and pain, but can quickly develop into a life-threatening condition, such as thrombosis.
However, the monk declares his determination to complete his 12-year tenure, hoping that the volunteers who care for him will help him fulfill his mission. ©LAPSI.al
