The Netherlands has been alerted to the illegal distribution of dangerous ecstasy pills shaped like Donald Trump's head and containing a very high concentration of the substance PMMA. The Trimbos Institute has issued a "red alert", urging citizens not to consume the tablets under any circumstances.
The pills were found in different colors and were handed over to drug control centers in the Netherlands. On one side they bear the image of the US president, while on the other side the words "Trump" and "NL" are written.
As laboratory tests showed, they contain a very high amount of para-methoxymethamphetamine (PMMA), a substance that shows similarities to MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy, but which is considered particularly dangerous.
The problem is that PMMA takes longer to work than MDMA. This can lead the user to believe the pill hasn't worked and take more, increasing the risk of overdose.
According to the Trimbos Institute, taking the pills can cause nausea, increased heart rate, convulsions, and a dangerous increase in body temperature, which in some cases can be fatal.
However, no deaths or serious illnesses linked to the pills have been reported so far. Trimbos Institute spokeswoman Aniek Grothaus said there have been no confirmed cases of PMMA in the blood.
This is not the first time that ecstasy pills have used Donald Trump's image, as in 2017, German police seized around 5,000 tablets in the shape of his head, which had been circulating on the illegal market. ©LAPSI.al
