Greek police have identified the Albanian man who was shot dead in Athens yesterday evening. He is Helis Cato, 38, a resident of Saranda, who is in serious condition in hospital. According to Greek authorities, Cato was wanted after an operation carried out in June against a group suspected of cocaine trafficking, during which firearms were also seized. Nine people were arrested in that operation and four others were wanted, including the 38-year-old. In total, the group consisted of 11 Albanians and three Greek citizens.
In connection with last night's incident, Greek police have arrested two 16-year-olds, Albanian Flavio Keqi and Greek Ioannis Karikis. They are suspected of being with Cato at the time of the shooting and then trying to leave. Both have been arrested for disobeying a police order. The attack took place near a church in the "Kolono" neighborhood of Athens. According to preliminary information, the 38-year-old was shot twice. After being wounded, Cato managed to walk to his vehicle, parked about 150 meters away, where he was later found by police.
