The Brescia court has ordered the detention of Eduart Xhani, the 21-year-old of Albanian origin who is accused of murdering his mother, 39-year-old Meleqe Lusha. The young man is currently hospitalized at the Brescia Civil Hospital, under police supervision, and is expected to be transferred to prison later. According to Italian media, authorities are taking extra care due to concerns that he may attempt to harm himself.
The crime took place on November 2 at the family home in Chiari, in the province of Brescia. A day later, Gianni presented himself at a carabinieri barracks in Cremona and declared that he had killed his mother. After his confession, police went to the home, where they found the 39-year-old's body.
During questioning, the 21-year-old stated that he had initially considered ending his life, as, according to him, he could not find his place in a world that he considered unfair. He then allegedly attacked his mother with a knife, stabbing her several times in the chest and abdomen. After the incident, Gianni left in his vehicle, an Audi A1, and the following morning surrendered to the Carabinieri. So far, he has not given a clear explanation for the motive for the murder. Italian media report that there were no previous conflicts between mother and son.
