The words "Minister of the Qaringites," the sect that betrayed and killed the first Imam of Shiite Islam, appeared on the screen. The word "foreigner" in Persian is written "kareje," while the text that appeared was "kavarejeh," which means "Qaringites." Thus, the "foreign minister" became "Minister of the Qaringites."
Some said that thinking the worst is a sin, but it is almost never a mistake. Many say it was an attack on the minister, who is currently pursuing negotiations with the United States to resolve the conflict. A reformist newspaper questioned whether it was really a mistake or a deliberate act, given that the television station employs a large number of people. The tabloid argued that such a message could not have escaped anyone's attention.
The word "Caringite" is often used in Iran to label an opponent as a traitor. Peace negotiations, like many other issues, are a hotbed of conflict in the country these days, between hawks and reformists. The foreign minister is considered a dove, while state television is controlled by the traditionalist faction that opposes the stance of Minister Abbas Aragchi.
