Residents of the cities of Winterthur and Ueterland in Zurich, Switzerland, were faced with a strange weather phenomenon on Friday (28/8). A large hailstone fell, causing serious property damage and injuries.
According to local media, elementary school students suffered injuries, and windows and roofs of houses, buildings, and school facilities were broken.
Car windows were damaged while in some cases hailstones looked like golf or tennis balls, gouging holes in vehicles.
Many ambulances were mobilized, which transported the injured to hospitals while special teams dealt with fallen trees on the road. Several cars traveling on the highway during the hail were forced to stop in the emergency lane due to the damage they suffered.
According to experts, this hail was an extremely rare weather phenomenon. The phenomenon lasted about 5 minutes. Suddenly, a strong wind started and everything went dark. Then "the hail started falling as if it was pouring," describes a car owner whose rear window was broken, noting that he had "never experienced anything like this before." ©LAPSI.al
