Only 9 Albanians have been accepted out of 310 students selected to attend the "7 Maji" Police High School in Skopje, which has caused reactions from Albanian opposition parties, which have described the situation regarding the representation of Albanians in the security institutions in North Macedonia as worrying.
Former Minister of Justice, Krenar Lloga, linked the situation to the political representation of Albanians in power and blamed the VALEN party.
"With VALEN, we went from 29% to 2.9% Albanians!", he said
The Alliance for Albanians has also reacted. The party emphasizes that the number of Albanian students constitutes less than 3 percent of the total.
"This means that today's composition of this school will be directly reflected in the composition of the police in the coming years," the party's response states.
ASH also claims that teaching at the school is conducted only in the Macedonian language and has demanded full transparency for the competition.
The party wants to know how many Albanians applied, how the candidates were evaluated, and what are the reasons that led to such a low representation of Albanians.
The Democratic Union for Integration has also requested the cancellation of the competition and its repetition based on criteria that, according to the party, guarantee real and adequate representation of all communities.
"This competition is not an isolated case. It is just another proof of a policy that is excluding Albanians from state institutions, especially from law enforcement and security bodies," DUI declared.
According to DUI, the representation of a community with such a low percentage in the police cannot be considered simply as the result of a competition, but raises questions about the mechanisms and will to guarantee fair representation.
Liridon Disha from DUI also criticized the Mayor of Tetova, Bilall Kasami, accusing him of talking about representing Tetova at the national level, while according to him, the situation at the Police School shows the opposite.
