A serious incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, August 27, in Gjorica të Poshtme in Bulqizë, where a 7-year-old girl was swept away by the current of the Drini i Zi river and drowned. Immediately after the announcement, a search began to find the minor, involving family members, residents of the area and the Police services. The little girl's lifeless body was found this morning near the Drini bridge.
According to reports, five relatives, an uncle with two grandsons and two granddaughters, had gone in to bathe when the river swept them away. The uncle with two grandsons and one of the daughters managed to be saved, while the 7-year-old girl did not. According to preliminary information, it is suspected that the increase in the flow of the Black Drini River came from the opening of the gates of the Shpilje hydroelectric power plant in North Macedonia.
