The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić, has publicly warned of the presence of a coordinated hybrid activity aimed at destabilizing the country and blocking its progress towards integration into the European Union.
Through a statement on the social network X, Spajić announced that Montenegrin authorities have serious operational data, according to which the closure of new chapters in negotiations with the EU is expected to be accompanied by hybrid attacks, which are suspected of involving officials from at least two countries in the region.
"We have serious operational security information that the announced closure of new negotiation chapters will be accompanied by coordinated hybrid actions, in which officials from at least two states in the region are involved.
According to our information, such activities aim to destabilize Montenegro, with the expected support of some political actors and part of the media scene in our country.
"We are aware of these intentions and are aware of their purpose. Attempts at destabilization will not change our course nor will they stop Montenegro's European path, which is more important than the momentary interest of any political structure," Spajic wrote.
The head of the Montenegrin government claims that these efforts are aimed at destabilizing the country through the support of certain political actors and a part of the local media scene. However, Spajić assured that these interventions will not succeed in changing the course or stopping Montenegro's European integration.
Although Prime Minister Spajić chose not to name the suspected countries, local media have shed light on the background to his statement. The Montenegrin newspaper “Vijesti”, citing confidential sources, reported that the two countries in the region that the Prime Minister was indirectly referring to regarding hybrid activity are Serbia and Albania.
