The body of convicted genocide and war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic was transported to Belgrade on a Serbian government plane. On the flight from The Hague, Mladic's body was accompanied by his son Darko, his granddaughter Anastasia and Serbian Justice Minister Nenad Vuic.
At several points on the highway where the vehicle carrying Mladic's body passed, citizens hung large banners reading: "Ratko Mladic, Serbian hero." According to pro-government media, the funeral will take place next Monday, September 7.
The funeral service will be held at the Church of St. Luke in the Vidikovac neighborhood of Belgrade, where Mladic's family lives. From Monday morning until 12:00, citizens will be able to pay their last respects at the Church of St. Luke. His burial will take place at the local cemetery where Mladic's daughter, who committed suicide in 1994, is also buried.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) sentenced Mladic to life imprisonment on June 8, 2021. He was found guilty of genocide committed against approximately 8,000 Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica, a UN-protected area, in the summer of 1995 when the Bosnian Serb army began its offensive.
He was also convicted of the persecution and forcible displacement of Bosniaks and Croats throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, terrorizing civilians during the siege of Sarajevo, and taking UN peacekeepers hostage during the NATO bombing in 1995. ©LAPSI.al
