Vodafone Albania has completed the technical implementation of the public WiFi4WB network in Albania, enabling free internet access in 75 public hotspots, distributed across all 61 municipalities of the country. From parks and museums to schools, community centers and other public spaces, the network creates opportunities for citizens to use digital services.
Vodafone Albania was selected as the project's "Connectivity Partner" by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). In this role, the company implemented the infrastructure and technical connectivity that enabled the operation of 75 Wi-Fi hotspots across the country.
WiFi4WB is implemented by GIZ, with co-financing from the European Union and the German Government, as part of the EU4Digital regional programme. The initiative builds on the WiFi4EU model and aims to expand free public internet access in municipalities in the Western Balkans.
The importance of the project goes beyond the installation of a Wi-Fi network. Internet access has become a necessity for the use of public services, education, information and participation in the country's digital economy. For municipalities, the opportunity for citizens to connect to the internet for free creates an additional channel to serve communities, while for citizens and local businesses, new opportunities for communication and access to services open up.
Vodafone Albania's role as an infrastructure provider places the company's capacities in the service of a broader European objective, reducing the digital divide and creating a comprehensive public infrastructure.
With the completion of 75 points in 61 municipalities, WiFi4WB becomes one of the projects with the widest territorial reach in the field of free public internet in Albania, as well as a concrete example of how European funding, institutional cooperation and Vodafone Albania's technical expertise can be translated into direct services for citizens.
