The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Evis Sala, has resigned from her position.
Sala announced the decision during a government meeting held this Wednesday, Lapsi.al exclusively learns, ending a relatively short mandate at the head of one of the government's most important departments.
At the moment, the reasons that led the minister to resign have not been officially announced, but in submitting her resignation, it is learned that she said that she "will pursue her academic career."
Evis Sala took over the Ministry of Health in September 2025, when she was included in the cabinet of Prime Minister Edi Rama's fourth term. At the time of her introduction, Rama emphasized Sala's international professional and academic profile, who came to the government after a long career in renowned medical and university institutions outside Albania.
Sala is a radiologist and has previously worked at the University of Cambridge, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and Policlinico Gemelli in Rome.
