Political crisis in Kosovo, PDK and Alliance block the entry of the Government

A day after six LDK MPs opposed the agreement with the Vetevendosje Movement on the presidential candidate, PDK and the Alliance again blocked the entry of the Government this Wednesday, demanding Albin Kurti to call a session of the Parliament.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance blocked the entrance of the Kosovo Government again this Wednesday. The action was attended by MPs from both parties, as well as assembly members and activists from Drenas.

"The fraud must be put to an end, because the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo are now seeing this fraud, because winning 50% of the votes and still blocking the creation of institutions is no longer conceivable, because we know who is to blame. The culprit is the incumbent Prime Minister and the Vetëvendosje Movement. Therefore, we, as citizens of the Republic and as institutional representatives, call for the institutions to be formed, for the lives of citizens to be normalized and for things to move forward, because Kosovo is bigger than each individual in the Republic of Kosovo," said Drenas Assemblyman, Dritan Ajazi.

The opposition is demanding the convening of a session of the Assembly and the constitution of institutions, while similar protests have been held in recent weeks.

"Albin Kurti must call a session, return to the Assembly, pave the way for the creation of new institutions. I said it and I repeat it: these are difficult days that the citizens of Kosovo are experiencing. Kosovo is stagnating in all its directions. Yesterday we saw a protest in the city square where the municipalities of Kosovo, citizens from all municipalities have protested due to the discrimination and frivolous approach that Albin Kurti and his party representatives are taking. Therefore, our request today is that he leave his ego behind once and for all, return to the creation of new institutions and stop the political blockade that he is making as a party that has received the greatest trust of the citizens of Kosovo. We owe it to this country, we owe it to the new generations, but above all we owe it to Kosovo to pave the way for the creation of new institutions, and my call today is for Mr. Dehari to call a session because there is no more time to wait. We have overcome every "constitutional deadline, every legal deadline and we are beyond every democratic and constitutional norm. That is why I repeat: return to the session, constitute the Assembly, then the possibilities are that it, if it has the votes, will proceed with the election of the president", said PDK MP, Blerta Deliu-Kodra.

The protest comes after the agreement between Vetëvendosje and LDK on the candidacy of Bekim Sejdiu for the post of president faced opposition within the LDK itself. Six deputies from this force declared that they would not support the candidacy, questioning the provision of the 80 deputies necessary to elect the head of state. However, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti declared on Tuesday that the agreement with LDK remains in force, although he acknowledged that the situation has changed and that he will hold further meetings with LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku. The presence of at least 80 deputies in the Assembly hall is required to elect the president of Kosovo. Vetëvendosje has 53 mandates and, together with deputies from non-majority communities, does not have enough votes without the support of part of the opposition. Clashes within LDK have made reaching this threshold even more uncertain.

Andi Bushati: What if Lali gets out of prison?

A pact has been drawn up between the prime minister and the imprisoned mayor to return the latter to office. But what would be the consequence for a justice reform, that the high-ranking officials have kicked down the doors of his cells?

A decisive moment for Albania

It is the first time that Albanians feel they can shape the national debate without waiting for political parties to take the lead. Experience teaches us that democracy depends not only on elections, but also on active citizenship among them.
