The Urban and Interurban Transport Associations warn that from September 1st they will reduce the fleet of vehicles in circulation by 20-30%, due to high fuel costs.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister's Office, the Municipality of Tirana and the relevant ministries, the National Association of Urban Transport and the Association of Urban and Interurban Transport say that the financial situation of the operators has worsened significantly, mainly due to fuel costs and the failure to realize the requested compensations. According to them, the lack of financial support makes it impossible to continue operating at full capacity.
The reduction of the fleet is expected to bring a decrease in bus frequency, an increase in the intervals between lines and more difficulties for citizens, while the operators warn that the measure is not a voluntary choice, but a consequence of the financial situation. The operators ask the institutions for urgent intervention to realize the compensations and the continuation of the support for the fuel costs. They emphasize that they will try to guarantee the continuity of the service, but operating with 100% of the fleet is no longer affordable in the current conditions.
