CIA Director John Ratcliffe arrived in Moscow on Tuesday in an unannounced trip.
Neither Washington nor Moscow have officially confirmed the presence of the US intelligence chief in the Russian capital, while it remains unclear who he is expected to meet with or what the topics of discussion will be.
Euronews reports that the visit comes after a US military transport plane landed at Moscow's Vnukovo airport after traveling from Washington via Riga, which was followed by a US diplomatic convoy moving through the city.
For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that he had no information about the military aircraft and that no meetings with representatives of the US administration were planned this week.
Ratcliffe's classified trip also coincides with the day after Ukraine's 35th anniversary of independence, where European leaders gathered in Kiev in support of the country, while no senior Trump administration representative attended those ceremonies.
