US President Donald Trump has published an image depicting the Strait of Hormuz as "new US territory", bringing back attention to his recent statements about this strategic waterway.
Trump shared a map of the Strait of Hormuz on social media, which was labeled "New US Territory." The publication comes days after the US president said Washington could declare the strait US territory.
Speaking on August 14, Trump claimed that the US Navy was implementing a complete blockade of Hormuz and declared that, after defeating Iran, the US would take control of this strategic area.
Trump has also stated that the United States has "complete control" over the Strait of Hormuz and that this control can be maintained in the future.
On the other hand, Iranian authorities have reiterated that the strait will not be reopened unless the US stops its naval intervention and blockade, while also demanding respect for the terms of the agreement reached between Tehran and Washington.
