Corruption in times of war, Zelensky dismisses another man from his circle

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed the deputy head of the presidential office, Iryna Mudra, from her post today, after she was accused of corruption.

The dismissal came just hours after the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecution announced that they had cracked down on a suspected criminal organization that included a senior presidential official, a current MP, a former MP, as well as executives of a state-owned bank.

The group is suspected of laundering around $3.4 million, which was used to pay the financial guarantee of a suspect in a corruption case in the energy sector.

Media reported that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau had searched premises linked to Mudra and MP Vadym Stolar. Mudra is responsible for legal affairs and judicial reform in the presidential office. She previously served as deputy justice minister.

NABU has released excerpts from conversations captured as part of the operation, but has not publicly identified the speakers. The recordings appear to include discussions about registering assets in the names of children and references to the presidential office. The operation comes amid a series of investigations by NABU and SAPO into suspected corruption at the highest levels of Ukrainian politics.
