In 2025, 6.9 million commercial flights were recorded in the European Union, an increase of 3.8% compared to 2024, when 6.7 million flights were recorded.
According to Eurostat, the number of flights has increased steadily since 2021 and, in 2025, returned to a level similar to that of the pre-pandemic period, when 7.0 million flights were recorded in 2019.
Non-scheduled commercial flights, including charter flights and other special flights, accounted for 8.5% of total flights in 2025. The summer months: June (648,707 flights in total), July (690,855) and August (693,46), recorded the highest number of non-scheduled flights, accounting for 11.2%, 12.3% and 11.4% of total flights, respectively.
Amsterdam's Schiphol, the airport with the largest number of commercial flights
The highest number of commercial flights, both scheduled and non-scheduled, in 2025 was recorded at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands, with 488,000 flights. It was followed by Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport in France, with 476,000 flights, and Frankfurt/Main in Germany, with 457,000 flights.
Among the 10 airports with the highest number of commercial flights, the highest percentage of non-scheduled flights was recorded at Athens/Eleftherios Venizelos in Greece (5.2%), Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas in Spain (4.8%) and København/Kastrup in Denmark (4.1%)./ Tv Klan
