On the eve of the protest announced for Saturday in the capital, the American Embassy has called on its citizens to exercise increased caution and avoid areas where demonstrations may take place.
In its announcement, the embassy warns of the risk of using tear gas, incendiary devices, fireworks, and rubber bullets, advising American citizens to stay away from government institutions and public gatherings.
The warning comes after episodes of violence recorded during recent protests in Tirana. The embassy also recommends that citizens follow developments in local media, follow police instructions, and have an emergency plan in case the situation escalates.
According to the announcement, the protests may also lead to roadblocks, traffic diversions and restrictions on public services.
