Kosovo's acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, received in Pristina political and civil society representatives from Presheva, Bujanovac, Medveđa and Sandžak. The meeting discussed institutional discrimination against Albanians in Serbia and the blocking of funds intended for projects in these areas.
Kurti said that two financial transfers have been blocked this year, one in January worth 304 thousand euros and another in April worth about 1.8 million euros. According to him, the funds are related to dozens of projects in culture, sports, education, media, the use of the Albanian language and support for children with special needs.
He also touched on Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić's recent visit to the Serb-majority areas of Medveđa, Bujanovac and Preševo. According to Kurti, the way Albanians are treated in these areas shows a pronounced institutional inequality.
Kurti called on the European Union to react to what he called systematic discrimination against Albanians in Serbia. He said that Kosovo will continue to raise this issue in Brussels, Washington and Strasbourg, while support for the Albanians of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, according to him, will remain continuous.
