Everton reveals why they were forced to send off Grealish against Newcastle:

Jack Grealish has been left out of Everton's squad for tonight's Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle. The player was expected to be available for the evening's match, but a surprise announcement from the club revealed he would not be part of the match due to a breach of the club's disciplinary code. "Jack Grealish is unavailable for the match due to a breach of the club's disciplinary code."

Grealish joined Everton on loan last season, aiming to revive his career after being deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester City. During that time, he has repeatedly shown the talent that prompted City to pay £100m to sign him in August 2021.

Doubts about what happened remain, while for some it is significant that Everton decided to make the disciplinary measure against the footballer public, when in fact they could have kept it secret without anyone knowing. “It is not a good sign for Grealish if it is Everton themselves who are publishing this decision,” wrote one fan, who fears that something more serious may have happened that led to his expulsion.

Grealish's last season was ended prematurely in January when he suffered a stress fracture in his left foot. In recent games, the Manchester City loanee missed Saturday's defeat to Arsenal through injury, but had started Everton's previous three Premier League games against Ipswich, Hull City and Chelsea.

His return to the field seemed to be expected for tonight, but that did not happen. Grealish seems to have been punished by the English club for missing training without permission. The footballer did not show up for the last training session before the match and, for this reason, Everton had no choice but to exclude him from this challenge. Of course, the 31-year-old, on loan at Everton from City for the second season in a row, has yet to register a single goal or assist in the seven games he has played so far this season.

This breach of the club's disciplinary code appears to have become the final straw that could lead to a departure at the end of the season, despite the fact that up to this point there has been no discussion about the possibility of his confirmation at Everton.
