Three children have died in a fire that engulfed a two-story apartment in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville, Florida. According to information from the Albanian community, the family is originally from Albania.
The fire broke out around 5:13 a.m. Wednesday on Windergate Drive. Firefighters arrived about four minutes later and found large flames on the first floor and heavy smoke on the second floor.
Two adults and two children managed to escape the apartment before firefighters arrived. They were taken to the hospital, while the other three children were found unresponsive inside the apartment.
According to the Albanian community, the family had five children. The children who lost their lives were reportedly 11-year-old twins and a 2-year-old boy.
A 2-month-old baby and an adult were reportedly thrown from a second-floor window, while people nearby helped catch them.
The family, according to the Albanian community in Jacksonville, is originally from Lushnja and has lived in the United States for years.
The fire was brought under control at around 05:38. The apartment was destroyed, while two other apartments nearby were damaged.
