How everyone abandoned Ergys Agas before his arrest

Not even a month has passed since the arrest of businessman Ermal Beqiri in France (July 28) and the handcuffing of his partner Ergys Agasi (August 26) in the Plepave area of ​​Durrës. 

Beqiri's arrest, after a "mistake" while flying a private plane into the area of ​​a nuclear power plant, also set his associates, as well as the former leaders of AKSHI, in motion.   

LAPSI.al reported a few days after Beqiri's arrest that the first person to appear to have felt the consequences was Ergys Agasi. It had been repeatedly said that he had not left Albania and was hiding not far from Tirana.

After Beqiri's arrest, sources told lapsi.al that Agasi had lost his composure, as he had to move and find another place to take shelter. According to the same sources, the guarantee of the people who had kept him hidden until then had ended.

The reason was precisely the "false step" that Ermal Beqiri made in France. Not too long ago, but 24 hours earlier (August 25), the French court left Beqiri in prison, giving him more chances for extradition. Beqiri's arrival in Albania cannot predict how far the investigations might extend, so the people who were sheltering Agas had given him time to find another base. 

Agas's arrest took place not far from Tirana. He was reportedly spotted in Elbasan, a city where SPAK's file shows he had strong connections. Agas was then traveling to Durres, another city where he had had an important base for years.       

According to the same sources, Ergys Agasi had persistently requested to contact, even for a few minutes, his man in the government, even the prime minister, in an attempt to secure guarantees that he could maintain the shelter he had held until Beqiri's arrest.

Another concern for the people who sheltered Agas is two electronic devices that French police found on Ermal Beqiri, where his most recent communications were stored. From the moment he left Albania, the months of his escape, his life in France, to conversations with his closest people, all the messages exchanged with contacts in Albania are now in the hands of French authorities.

Such a detail was also reported by the French media "Journal du Dimanche", the first to publish the news of Ermal Beqiri's arrest. It remains to be seen whether the French authorities will themselves decode the communications found on these electronic devices, or whether they will be handed over to the Albanian authorities at the time of extradition.

If Ermal Beqiri's communications are revealed by the Albanian authorities, the AKSHI file could enter a new phase of investigation, with consequences for the people who are suspected of having helped him during his escape.

Since December 2025, when he was declared wanted, it has been said that Ergys Agasi has been hiding in Albania, exploiting connections with criminal groups, as a reward for favors from the time when he was part of Edi Rama's inner circle and exerted influence over key segments of the state. But even these favors seem to have had an expiration date.

It was reported in the media, but without proof, that Agasi was hiding sometimes in a resort on the outskirts of Tirana, sometimes in the vicinity of Durrës near his friends the Troplini, and sometimes at Suel Çela's base in Elbasan.

His friends in Durrës, Tirana or Elbasan seem to have realized that the adventurer who once boasted of his friendship with Edi Rama and moved with the prime minister's escort, had now become a burden. ©LAPSI.al
