Gerry Cardinale couldn't have expected a better evening as Milan owner after his team gave him a magical night with a 3-1 derby win over Inter. Cardinale's satisfaction was immense. After what happened last season, since the beginning of this year he has decided to follow Milan much more closely, without missing a moment of the club's developments.
Even in the transfer market, Cardinale has been very present and protagonist, especially in the negotiations that brought about the approaches of the Portuguese Goncalo Ramos and Diego Moreira. The latter was one of the main protagonists of the derby. Perhaps this is also the reason why the victory over Inter had such great significance for Cardinale. “It is the most beautiful evening”, he told Telelombardia, his eyes filled with tears of emotion. “We play a match every three days, we deal with injuries, we recover the team with all the players available… Look at these boys. They are winners. I have tears in my eyes. It is fantastic, my friend. It is the most beautiful evening… From here we will build our future”.

Cardinale could barely hold back his tears and his emotions were immediately noticeable. The Milan owner has firmly believed in the red and black project and this year, more than ever, he wanted the team to feel his presence. From choosing the coach, Amorim, to approaching several players for very large sums of money, Cardinale has shown that he does not want to repeat the mistakes of last season, which cost Milan qualification for the Champions League.
In fact, since the departure of coach Allegri, he has taken direct charge of his club's affairs, carefully selecting the protagonists of the new Milan season himself. He entrusted Jorge Mendes with the task of bringing to the team players who, in his opinion, could make the difference and who, thanks to their young age, could also represent an important sales opportunity in the future. Precisely for this reason, today Diego Moreira and Goncalo Ramos are seen as carefully targeted approaches in this regard. The former has managed to adapt immediately and become a protagonist on such an important evening as the derby.
In an interview with Sky, Cardinale made this philosophy even clearer: “We want to be active. I will be here for a long time and I want, as I always will, to be active in every transfer window, trying to take advantage of all the opportunities that come our way,” he explained. He added: “Tonight we saw the character of this team. If we stick together and support each other, we will win. The team has had to cope with a busy schedule and a lot of injuries, but in this derby it was character and consistency that made the difference.”
