Police launch investigation into intentional homicide: footage of Owono emerges

Spanish football is mourning the death of Jesus de Miguel, after a collision on the pitch with Jesus Owono during a Segunda Division match between Tenerife and Andorra, which turned into a tragedy. The goalkeeper from Equatorial Guinea, who is still in a state of shock after causing the death of his opponent with a dangerous tackle, has been opened an investigation that will have to determine responsibility and decide the consequences of his action. Videos recorded by several fans present at the stadium and accounts from the Spanish media make it possible to reconstruct the minutes before the collision that cost the Spanish footballer his life.

In the 99th minute of the match, at the end of a very long period of extra time, Owono hit de Miguel with a raised knee. The latter suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest that lasted several minutes. He was resuscitated on the pitch and then urgently transported to hospital, but admission to the intensive care unit failed to save his life. The violent collision occurred after the goalkeeper had gone up to the height of the halfway line of the pitch to intercept the ball. It came at the height of a match that had become increasingly tense due to the recovery of Andorra, which managed to equalize after being 2-0 behind.

What happened before Owono's intervention?

Spanish police have opened an investigation into the goalkeeper, who, in addition to a very long suspension, could also face criminal charges for De Miguel's death. Fans present at the stadium have released some footage recorded before the fatal collision. The final part of the match had become very nervous, after Andorra's equalizers were scored within a two-minute period. The footage shows a very irritated Owono, who first collided with the opposing goalkeeper on the other side of the pitch and then celebrated the goal, rejoicing directly in front of the Tenerife fans' stands.

For some spectators, it was not just a reckless tackle, but a violent gesture towards the attacker who was running towards the goal. In an attempt to stop him, the goalkeeper threw himself at him with force, hitting him in the chest and head. A fatal blow, which later led to De Miguel's death the following morning, after being urgently admitted to the intensive care unit.

Owono did not immediately understand the seriousness of the situation, despite the fans in the stands continuing to shout "murderer". Initially, to the fans, he did not seem remorseful for his action, but the media has emphasized that he is in a state of shock. After the footballer was hospitalized, he stayed in the locker room praying and crying. He also tried to contact the player's family to apologize privately.
