In last Sunday's elections, the opposition student list won a clear majority of seats, leaving the previous governing coalition, led by longtime leader Aleksandar Vučić, in opposition.
Although the change of government has not yet taken place, the foundations of Vučić's regime's power are already beginning to be shaken. Part of this development is the arrest of a senior police officer, considered Vučić's "favorite policeman."
According to a report by Tanjug news agency, the public prosecution accuses Kriçak of obstructing and manipulating investigations into a murder case involving the mafia.
From car salesman to top police officer
Kričak is suspected of manipulating evidence in order for the prosecution to drop charges of aiding and abetting murder.
Initially, Kričak worked as a car salesman, and was later recruited into the domestic intelligence service, BIA, as a loyalist of Vučić's Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
Starting in July 2023, he headed the Serbian Police's Personal Protection Service (JZO). At the end of 2025, he was appointed head of the Serbian Criminal Police.
According to Tanjug reporting, the prosecution also accuses him of mistreatment and intimidation of peaceful protesters.
In August 2025, JZO officers dragged a group of students into the basement of the government building in Belgrade. Kričak, who was head of the unit at the time, is alleged to have personally led the operation, beating a student and threatening her with rape.
