Four students from the "Naim Frashëri" high school in Durrës spent the night at the Montenegrin police station in Kotor, after an incident with an elderly local woman, who reacted to them after making the double-headed eagle symbol with her hands.
The incident occurred the day before, during a tourist excursion that the school students were taking to Montenegro. According to reported information, the four high school students were returning from lunch when they were confronted by an elderly woman, who asked them where they were from.
The students responded by making the eagle symbol with their hands and laughing. The woman responded by slapping one of them, which escalated the situation.
She then notified the Montenegrin police, claiming that she had been provoked by the youths. The officers intervened and escorted the four high school students to the police station, where they stayed overnight.
One of the teachers who accompanied the students on the excursion also went to the police. The four young people were later released, but according to reported information, Montenegrin authorities asked them not to repeat gestures with national symbols.
The Regional Directorate of Pre-University Education in Durrës and the Ministry of Education were notified of the incident last evening.
