Hezbollah has reiterated its categorical opposition to the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, making it clear that it has no intention of handing over its weapons, despite the organization's weakening after recent clashes with Israel.
Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem stated that the Shiite movement opposes the agreement and called for its abandonment.
"We are against the framework agreement and call for its abandonment," Qassem said during a speech broadcast by Al-Manar television.
The agreement, signed on June 26 under the auspices of the United States, foresees the Lebanese army taking control of areas in the south of the country. The process is linked to the gradual disarmament of Hezbollah, initially in several areas designated as "pilot zones", from which Israeli forces would then withdraw.
Qassem also opposed this mechanism, calling the agreement "unfair, illegal and humiliating."
"We do not accept either the pilot zones or what comes after their creation," he declared.
The Hezbollah leader also opposed the creation of a verification committee, which is expected to oversee the implementation of the agreement and the organization's disarmament process.
During talks in Rome in early August, Lebanon and Israel discussed the composition of this mechanism. The committee is expected to monitor the deployment of the Lebanese army in the pilot areas, as well as the destruction of Hezbollah's weapons and military infrastructure.
A new round of negotiations is expected to take place in September, although a concrete date has not yet been set.
Meanwhile, tensions in southern Lebanon continue. Israel continues to carry out attacks on Lebanese territory, while also maintaining control over several areas in the south of the country.
Despite Hezbollah's reduced military activity in recent weeks, Qassem stressed that the organization has no intention of surrendering.
"We hold our heads high and we do not surrender," he declared, reiterating Hezbollah's rejection of disarmament and the terms of the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
