After 27 years of uncertainty, the fate of three intellectuals who had been missing since the war in Kosovo has been revealed. Their identification was made possible through DNA analysis, which confirmed the belonging of mortal remains found in two different locations.
The remains were discovered in the areas of Kalludra and Jabuka, and the identification process has finally brought an answer to the family members, who for decades had been seeking to learn the truth about the fate of their relatives.
The identities of the three identified individuals are Adem (Fazli) Ademi, Fatmir (Bajram) Fazliu and Ali (Islam) Haliti. They were part of the group known as the “Intellectuals Group”, whose members were kidnapped on April 19, 1999.
During July and August of this year, excavations were carried out in the areas of Kalludra and Jabuka, in the municipality of Zubin Potok, where the remains of 23 people were discovered. The identification process continues, while it is expected that further DNA analyses will provide answers for families who continue to search for their missing relatives.
