In an attempt to once again be the standout character at the NATO summit in Ankara, Edi Rama appeared in his white sneakers, making infantile gestures in front of the heads of state present at the summit.
Footage released by the prime minister's office shows the smiles of European leaders as Rama appears in white sneakers, while NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte gestures to US President Donald Trump to take a look at Rama.
If the goal was to attract attention, the result seems disappointing.
Trump does not even glance at or react at all towards the Albanian Prime Minister, completely ignoring him as seen in the video below shared by the Prime Minister.
For years, Edi Rama has invested in the image of a politician who defies protocol, as a way to make the clown, the leader funny and humorous to those around him. But in Ankara, according to published footage, it was difficult to get a smile from President Donald Trump.
In the footage distributed to the Albanian media, however, another detail is missing, which the prime minister has hidden. Before the photo was taken, Edi Rama descends one step lower than the others, as if to equalize in height with the first row of politicians.
The summit was held behind closed doors, with only the opening speech of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan broadcast to the media. Despite Rama's palatial gestures, Albania is not satisfied with the Ankara summit, as the upcoming summit planned to be held in Tirana has been called into question, due to the modest contribution of the Albanian army to NATO.
