A new wave of ballistic missile attacks has been recorded overnight in several Ukrainian cities, causing at least 4 deaths and 36 injuries, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The worst attacks were reported in the eastern city of Kharkiv, where three people were killed and 20 others were injured. Meanwhile, in the capital, Kiev, one person was killed and 16 others were injured in rocket attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the attack on Kiev as one of the most massive ballistic missile attacks since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022.
According to Ukrainian forces, air defenses managed to shoot down 18 of the 41 missiles launched overnight, while 108 Russian drones were neutralized. The attacks caused damage to residential buildings and other civilian objects, including a supermarket and a dormitory in the Kiev region.
In Kharkiv, a postal terminal on the outskirts of the city was hit by rockets. The three victims were men aged 24 to 62, while some of the injured are in serious condition.
Zelensky stated that over the past week, Russia has used over 1,450 attack drones, more than 1,640 guided bombs and 99 missiles of various types against Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has stepped up long-range drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, particularly oil refineries. Kiev continues to ask its Western allies for new air defense systems to counter ballistic missile attacks.
