The Institute of Public Health in Korça announces that epidemiologists from the Institute of Public Health in Tirana are expected to arrive today, who will conduct screenings in various areas of Korça tomorrow for the West Nile Fever virus. Meanwhile, the health condition of the 72-year-old man, who is the first confirmed case with this virus, continues to be serious. The elderly man is being treated at the Korça Regional Hospital.
Public Health leaders announced that immediately after the confirmation of the tests, epidemiological interviews were also conducted. They showed that the 72-year-old man had not left the territory of Korça, which indicates that the infection occurred in this area. After confirming the case, Public Health in Korça has requested from the ambulances of the neighborhoods and administrative units of the district that any person presenting suspicious symptoms be immediately referred to the epidemiological service. The screenings that begin tomorrow are expected to help in assessing the situation and identifying other possible cases.
