For nearly three months, citizens have been protesting against the government and are expected to return to the streets of Tirana today. The main demand remains unchanged: the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. As in previous rallies, protesters are expected to gather first at Skanderbeg Square and then march towards the Prime Minister's Office. Speeches by activists and citizens will be held there, before the protest continues with a march through the streets of the capital.
In recent weeks, the demands have expanded. In addition to the resignation of the prime minister and the government, the protesters are demanding the creation of a caretaker government with a 12-month mandate. According to them, this should pave the way for a new political process and free and fair elections. The list of demands also includes the repeal of several laws that the protesters consider contrary to the public interest.
After 87 days of protest, organizers say they will not back down. They have warned that they will continue to take to the streets until their demands are met.
