A 20-year-old Albanian man has lost his life as a result of a serious accident that occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning in Italy.
The victim has been identified as Thomas Qirjaj, of Albanian origin. The young man would have celebrated his 21st birthday in December.
According to Italian media, Thomas was traveling with four friends in a "Volvo" vehicle, with Swiss license plates, towards Milan.
After passing the toll booth, the car lost control and crashed into the highway divider.
After the collision, the 20-year-old got out of the vehicle to place the emergency triangle on the road, but at that moment he was hit by an SUV driven by a 25-year-old from Modena.
According to the preliminary reconstruction, the driver of the vehicle did not notice the young man until the last moment.
Ambulances and rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene. Due to the serious injuries, the young man was urgently transported, in critical condition, to the hospital.
Despite doctors' efforts to save his life, Thomas Qirjaj passed away in the hospital.
The friends traveling with him did not suffer serious injuries.
Thomas was an only child in his family, of Albanian origin, which had settled in Caorso for years.
