The National Bank of Serbia has taken a drastic decision this Saturday, October 31, by revoking the license of ALTA Banka, the financial institution controlled by the group of businessman Davor Macura, whose name has been repeatedly mentioned by the Serbian opposition for suspected financial ties to the circle of Aleksandar and Andrej Vučić.
The decision was officially confirmed by the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), which announced that ALTA Banka's financial situation had deteriorated significantly, endangering the interests of depositors.
According to the announcement, the banking institution had previously been inspected and required to take measures to improve liquidity. However, the authorities determined that there was a risk of further financial deterioration.
After the license is revoked, the Deposit Insurance Agency will take over the administration of the bankruptcy proceedings, according to the relevant court decision.
Deposits are insured up to 50 thousand euros per depositor, while the authorities have announced procedures for returning the guaranteed amounts.
Meanwhile, long lines of people were seen at the counters of this bank today, going to withdraw money. The video below was recorded at one of the bank's branches in Novi Sad.
