The High Public Prosecutor's Office in Munich confirmed to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's (REL) Balkan Service that criminal proceedings had been launched in Germany against a minor suspected of carrying out a terrorist attack on the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade.

During this attack, a member of the Serbian Gendarmerie, who was guarding the building, killed the attacker.

As stated in the October 30 response provided to REL, the Munich District Court, in June 2026, issued an arrest warrant for a 17-year-old citizen of Serbia, on suspicion of committing several criminal offenses, including "giving instructions for the commission of a terrorist offense", as well as for the dissemination and public use of symbols of the extremist organization, the Islamic State.

"He was suspected of having observed the Sankt-Jakobs-Platz square in Munich and of having attempted to obtain weapons to carry out an attack on the Jewish Museum there. From June 22 to July 24, 2026, he was in custody in a juvenile correctional facility," the Munich High Public Prosecutor's Office said in a response.

This institution says that the suspect had no previous convictions and that since 2022 he had been living with his father in Munich, while on July 24, 2026 he was deported to Serbia, to his mother who lives in this country.

As announced by the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the juvenile attacker, armed with two knives, attacked a member of the Gendarmerie guarding the Israeli Embassy building in Belgrade on the night between October 27 and 28.

The attacker, shouting "Allahu Akbar [God is great]," attacked the gendarmerie officer with two knives, after which the gendarmerie officer opened fire, announced Serbia's acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dacic.

He also announced that, "although his identity has not yet been determined, our service had tracked him and it is known that he was a supporter of the Islamic State."

The investigation is being conducted by the Serbian Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office, which previously confirmed to REL that the prosecutor had instructed the police to question the stepfather and mother of "the minor DN, who is suspected of being the person [NN] who committed the attack."

An attack on the Israeli diplomatic mission in Belgrade also occurred in June 2024, when Miloš Žujović (1999), also known as Salahudin, attacked with a bow and arrow and injured a member of the Gendarmerie guarding the Embassy.

The wounded gendarme returned fire with his official weapon and killed the attacker.

The attack was classified as terrorism, and a large-scale police operation was launched after the incident, during which several people were arrested who authorities in Serbia claimed had links to radical Islamist circles.

In Serbia, in 2019, seven people were sentenced by final judgment to a total of 69 years and six months in prison for association with the purpose of terrorism, participation in the war in Syria and collaboration with the extremist group, the Islamic State. /REL
