Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will give Italian citizens the option to choose personalized license plates for their cars. The new measure, included in the 2027 budget, will be offered for a fee of 600 euros for cars and 360 euros for motorcycles.
Under the new rules, offensive, ambiguous or controversial combinations will not be allowed. The measure is expected to come into effect at the end of April 2027.
"Anyone who wants to will be able to use their imagination, against the corresponding financial cost. And something tells me that the creativity of Italians can play a big role," said Meloni.
Until now, standard Italian license plates consist of two letters, three numbers and two more letters at the end.
With the new change, citizens will have the opportunity to choose a personalized combination, while respecting the restrictions set by the rules.
