Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke about the case of Belinda Balluku and SPAK's request for her suspension from office, calling the measure "absurd" and unprecedented. In an interview with Rudina Xhunga, Rama said that in this case he was not personally challenged, but the Constitution and the separation of powers. According to him, if prosecutors were given the right to suspend ministers, the system that is being built would be violated.
"In the case of Belinda Balluku, another thing that had nothing to do with her was very badly billed. An absurd measure was produced, unprecedented in world history: the suspension of the minister from office. The prosecutor and the judge joined together in a room and decided to make the Prime Minister, the Parliament, the President.
I was not challenged. The Constitution of the Republic of Albania was challenged and an independent power was challenged. They are an independent power and we are an independent power. What does that mean? We are not independent of the law, we implement the law. They are there independent of us to control the implementation of the law in relation to the public interest. But they are not independent to decide for us. They are independent to impose criminal sanctions on us in the event that we violate the law. That is the red line of the powers.
If prosecutors were given the right to suspend ministers, SPAK would be tried, everything we are trying to build would be destroyed. SPAK entered my territory as prime minister and our territory as the parliamentary majority that voted for the government and the territory of the President who decreed the ministers.
