Since the publication of the wiretaps of Rama's Israeli friend, Ron Yeffet, with several Ukrainian citizens seeking to buy weapons using Albanian companies, there has been considerable confusion over the position of the Albanian state in this story. Does Albania produce and export weapons or not? The question seems simple, but the answers of government officials complicate the issue.
If you base your statement on the statements of the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, the answer is yes. Albania produces weapons and they are even currently used in conflicts abroad.
"We also have AAT, Advanced Arm Technology, which produces weapons, and these weapons, as I said once again, are in use today in conflicts somewhere."
Nufi's statement was made on April 3, during a session in Parliament. The minister did not specify which conflicts he was referring to, but the message was clear: an Albanian company produces weapons and its production has ended up in war zones.
The Ministry of Defense has another version.
During an interview with Blendi Fevziu in "Opinion", Deputy Minister of Defense, Blerina Abrazhda, denied that Albania exports weapons. According to her, our country currently does not sell weapons abroad.
"Albania does not export today. To my knowledge as deputy minister and based on what you can find from AKSHE, which deals with exports, Albania does not export weapons," she says.
So, within the same Ministry of Defense, there are two versions on this issue. The only thing certain about this issue is that the person who may have the most information is Rama's friend, the Israeli Ron Yeffet.
