Zion Suzuki will not be a PSG player. The transfer of the Japanese goalkeeper, which seemed close to completion, finally failed and the player chose another destination, moving to Aston Villa. The reasons for the failure to reach an agreement have been explained to L'Equipe: the negotiations would have failed due to the request of Suzuki's agents to receive a higher commission than that provided for by French legislation. Paris Saint-Germain, in fact, would not have agreed to exceed the limit established by law.
In France, since 2010, there has been a limit on the commissions paid to sports agents. The legislation stipulates that the agent's remuneration cannot exceed 10% of the value of the contract signed by the footballer. A rule that had a decisive impact in the negotiations for the Parma goalkeeper.
Suzuki-PSG, the deal failed due to commissions
The issue, therefore, would not be related to the terms of Suzuki's transfer, but precisely to the remuneration requested by his representatives. Faced with the impossibility of meeting the request, PSG decided to terminate the operation, opening the way for Aston Villa. French legislation also provides for the principle of sole representation: an agent cannot act simultaneously for more than one of the parties involved in the same contract. A discipline established with the aim of regulating the role of agents and limiting possible conflicts of interest.
A different situation from Italy, where there is no similar general legal limit on agents' commissions. In the case of the Japanese Suzuki, therefore, it was precisely the limit provided for by French legislation that contributed to a transfer that seemed already completed turning into a failed operation.
