Lega Serie A's tough stance towards Tring, the Albanian platform that regularly pays 4 million euros per year for the rights to broadcast the Italian championship, but did not block the signal for Italy. Now the Lega itself has considered doing this, "at least until the broadcaster provides sufficient guarantees that it is able to avoid Italy using this platform to watch the championship and Coppa Italia matches."
It was not really possible for Lega Serie A to remain passive while the Albanian platform Tring, which regularly pays to have the rights to broadcast the Italian championship in the Balkan country, did not block the signal abroad, in clear violation of the terms of any contract for the sale of rights to sporting events, in Italy and worldwide. Whoever buys the rights in question, in relation to a specific market and paying only for that market, must guarantee that the broadcast of the events is not accessible outside its borders, not without a VPN or other illegal means.

But now the party is over, to the regret not only of Tring (which pays the League 4 million euros a year for the championship rights), but also of fans residing in Albania, who found the signal blocked on the eve of the 2026/27 season. Serie A intervened after having warned the Albanian broadcaster with a series of warning letters: an official announcement from Via Rosellini announced the interruption of the signal.
"Lega Calcio Serie A announces that, starting today, it will not offer the Serie A Enilive and Coppa Italia Frecciarossa TRING signals to the Albanian broadcaster - at least until the broadcaster provides sufficient guarantees that it is able to avoid that this platform can be used from Italy to watch the championship and Coppa Italia matches. The contract currently in force, clearly, strictly prohibits any form of signal arrival in Italy and imposes the geolocation of OTT signals only in Albania."
It is likely that a similar step will be taken by UEFA regarding the broadcasting of European cups, above all the Champions League, the exclusive rights for Italy of which are paid dearly by Sky.
