US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Stephen Miller will replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff. This is one of the most significant moves in his team since the Republicans' defeat in the midterm elections.
“I am pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Miller, the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Trump Administration and one of my most trusted advisors, will become Chief of Staff effective Monday, November 9, 2026,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “Susie Wiles, who has done a great job, will be moving to the Trump Political Operation. I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff. She has done a great job!” he added.
Miller has been one of Trump's most loyal and closest aides for years and has held numerous White House positions, including as the architect of the president's tough immigration and deportation enforcement program. Wiles has been Trump's chief of staff since his first day in the White House, having led his 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump's decision to appoint Miller as chief of staff represents a doubling down on his approach to governance, despite the broad rejection of the president's agenda by voters on Tuesday.
