Murder of 13-year-old Albanian girl in Italy, Appeal reduces sentence for

The Court of Appeal in Bologna has reduced from 17 to 15 years in prison the sentence for the young man who was 15 years old at the time of the incident, convicted of the death of 13-year-old Aurora Tila.

Aurora died on October 25, 2024 in Piacenza, after jumping from a balcony. The case has caused strong reactions in Italy, while the girl's family has openly expressed dissatisfaction with the Appeals Court's decision, the media writes.

Lawyer Emilio Malaspina, representing the victim's mother, stated that the family is particularly disappointed by the Attorney General's Office's request for a reduced sentence.

"Aurora was 13 years old, the youngest victim of femicide in Europe," the lawyer said.

The girl's mother, Morena Corbellini, reacted sharply after the decision, criticizing the justice system and the way such cases are handled.

"Do we expect the number of femicides to decrease then? They will only increase. Even minors will kill more and more, until the country intervenes forcefully and in the right way," she declared.

Corbellini added that the situation, according to her, will only get worse and that sentences are being handed out too lightly.
