Vincent Kompany has returned home after suffering a serious injury a week ago at Bayern Munich's training ground after a training session with the second team. The news was announced by the Bavarian club's sporting director, Max Eberl, on the eve of the Cup match against Magdeburg. "I believe this is the biggest and most beautiful news for all of us," said the Bayern Munich manager, who for the first time explained the details and cause of his health problem. "It has been revealed what happened: it is a meningeal irritation, which caused this episode last week. Now he has been able to return home and can rest there. I am very, very convinced that he will soon be back to 100 percent form on the bench."
For Bayern Munich, this is a huge relief, as the club has had a truly unusual week following the coach's serious condition. The situation had caused great concern among the players, staff members, club management and fans. Finally, however, some good news has arrived.
Meningeal irritation, also known as meningeal syndrome, is a condition in which the meninges, the protective membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord, become inflamed or irritated for various reasons. A severe headache, often accompanied by sudden vomiting, is among the first symptoms. Kompany was immediately checked by doctors, who initially also considered the possibility of a neurological problem, to understand if there was any particular concern. The tests, as Eberl explained, later revealed a meningeal infection.
During the period of rest at home, Kompany will have to take medication to reduce inflammation, as well as, apparently, intravenous fluids and treatments to keep his temperature and vital parameters under control. Medications are also used to relieve severe headaches, fever and nausea. Specific antiviral drugs are only prescribed in special cases. However, it seems that the hardest part is behind Kompany, who had started the season in excellent form with Bayern Munich, supported in particular by the goals of Harry Kane, the last winner of the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
