Protests in Albania/Democratic Senator: The people have the right to demand

Democratic US Senator Elissa Slotkin has reacted to the protests in Albania, stressing that citizens have the right to protest peacefully and hold their representatives accountable. She has called on the Albanian government to respect the rule of law, prevent excessive use of police force, and fight corruption.

Slotkin has called on all parties to reduce tensions and find a peaceful solution, while student protests in Albania have escalated following accumulated dissatisfaction over tuition fees, the quality of teaching, and dormitory conditions.

"Over the past few days, I have received a number of calls from Michigan residents concerned about the escalation of violence in Albania, as well as in other European countries.

The Albanian people have the right to protest peacefully and hold their elected officials accountable.

Likewise, the Albanian government has an obligation to respect the rule of law, protect protesters from excessive use of police force, fight corruption, and respond to citizens' concerns.

"I urge both sides to do everything they can to reduce tensions and find a peaceful way forward," the Democratic senator from Michigan wrote. /LAPSI.al
