Croatian Prime Minister asks Serbian election winners: Are you for or against

Is the Student List in Serbia a PRO-European movement? The most European voice in the Western Balkans, but also the main rival of Serbia, has raised strong doubts about the new government in Belgrade.

At the Brussels Summit, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic was one of Vučić's most critical voices until the day of his defeat, but now he is asking the Student List of Serbia to clarify in the government whether it is pro or anti-EU.

"Honestly, I think nobody knows much about the positions of the new government in Serbia. Because they were very, very smart not to say much before the elections, which I can understand tactically. But now, when they take over, they have to explain what they stand for. What was significant for all observers: there were no European flags at all on election night. None. None."

Flirtations with Russia, the blocking of dialogue with Kosovo, criticism of violations of human rights, and even the state ceremony for the former butcher of Bosnia, Ratko Mladic, increased skepticism and direct criticism of the European Union towards the government of Aleksandar Vucic.

But Plenkovic, the prime minister of the last Balkan country to join Europe, thinks that this is not enough to give the Serbian Student List its pro-Western blessing.

"Listening to the comments of the citizens of Serbia, it seemed more like a movement for freedom, which should be respected. But we need to examine in detail the essence of their European policy. I think we should give them some time."

In fact, just like Vučić's multilateral diplomacy, the Student List in Serbia has not made any fundamental changes in its foreign policy. In its campaign statements, this List is pro-European integration, but on the other hand it is against European sanctions against Russia.

It even demands the preservation of economic ties, such as dependence on Russian gas. The EU clearly no longer accepts this form of diplomacy. Especially now that they have to govern the country.
