The Democratic Party will take to the Constitutional Court the normative act on gatherings, which provides for administrative measures of up to 500 thousand lek for persons with hidden identities who do not obey the Police order. The news was announced by MP Jorida Tabaku, during today's session of the Committee on Human Rights and Public Information. Tabaku described the normative act as unconstitutional, raising concerns about the respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as the manner of Police intervention during protests.
"Human rights today are in an extraordinary crisis and we need to speak out. The government has approved a normative act that is unconstitutional and I am saying that the DP will take it to the Constitutional Court. Meanwhile, citizens have started to be stopped from the streets, taken hostage on the streets of Tirana in non-police cars, without identified police officers. Citizens have started to be fined. In what country are we where participation in a protest comes with a fine. I don't know if there is a normal country where participating in a protest is punished with a fine," said Tabaku.
