The Albanian Football Federation has notified UEFA today, through a letter from President Armand Duka, that it is withdrawing support for the re-election of Gianni Infantino as head of FIFA.
"On May 20, 2026, the Albanian Football Federation submitted its letter of support for the candidacy of Mr. Gianni Infantino for a new four-year term as FIFA President.
After further internal consultations and careful consideration, we would like to officially inform you that the Albanian Football Federation has decided to withdraw its support for the candidacy of Mr. Infantino.
"Therefore, please accept this letter as the official notification that the Albanian Football Federation revokes its previous support for the upcoming FIFA presidential elections," reads the letter published by the FSHF and signed by President Duka.
"Sky Sport" has meanwhile published a statement from UEFA indicating that the boycott of FIFA competitions, such as the World Cup, still stands. Despite FIFA withdrawing from the plan to sell the competitions, Infantino's stance at the helm means that Albania and the other 54 UEFA federations are on the verge of a decision to withdraw from FIFA competitions. The 2030 World Cup is the most talked about competition, even though it is 4 years away.
"UEFA's member associations made it very clear what the conditions were for not participating in FIFA competitions.
Firstly, proposals to sell the major competitions had to be withdrawn, and secondly, guarantees had to be given that such attempts to distort football in this way would never be made again.
These conditions have not been met. Furthermore, UEFA made it abundantly clear in its statement on Saturday that it has lost confidence in Gianni Infantino's presidency. This position remains unchanged.
"Yesterday's announcement, according to which several people employed by the FIFA president (whose careers depend on his support) agree with him, does not change anything," UEFA said. /LAPSI.al
