The opposition has rejected President Bajram Begaj's invitation for consultations regarding the setting of the date for the 2027 local elections. Only the chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, was present at the meeting with the head of state. It is also learned that representatives of the Social Democratic Party will also attend the meeting with President Begaj.
The absence of opposition representatives meant that the President's consultations on the election date were held only with the representative of the majority. Meanwhile, in the coming days, President Begaj is expected to continue the procedure for setting the date of the local elections, which will be determined through a presidential decree.
The Freedom Party today rejected the invitation of the Head of State, while three days ago it was the Chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, who described the process as "political theater". He stated that the President is not fulfilling his constitutional role and is not responding to the concerns of the citizens who are protesting.
